Regional Integrated Water Management Strategies
Boroondara Integrated Water Management Strategy, VIC
Client: Boroondara City Council
As an established municipality with limited scope for greenfield development, Boroondara has a number of challenges to implement future water management to mitigate the impacts of urbanisation. With competing interests for open space and the majority of historic drainage lines confined to deep pipes; opportunities to implement stormwater treatment must be strategic and well-targeted to optimise benefits. Extensive catchment mapping and analysis was undertaken to initially develop Council's water and pollutant balance and to identify a suite of large scale opportunities across the municipality. Targets were set and recommendations for meeting these targets made based on financial contributions and realistic timeframes. Workshops with Council staff were used to ensure findings and recommendations were relevant and useful to all Council staff. Project findings were provided to Council in a report, stylised spread sheets and GIS layers.
