Maribyrnong Park Integrated Treatment, VIC
Client: Moonee Valley City Council
An existing ornamental lake was redesigned to function as a combined bioretention/wetland system which treats local stormwater in a high profile urban park. Embracing the heritage listed band rotunda and the existing bluestone perimeter to the lake, the design provides a cost effective solution which enhances the amenity of the park whilst helping Council to meet their water management targets. Biodiversity is encouraged through a diverse palette of plants within the two bioretention cells and the hydraulically connected wetland. Located adjacent to a busy playground and riverside eatery, the Maribyrnong Park system draws the community in to interact with the feature through a mix of formal and informal paths.
