Sustainability and water were the keys to redeveloping the Southport Broadwater Parklands, transforming it from an old, tired parkland and carpark into the Gold Coast’s premier recreation and events space.
DesignFlow designed water elements that provide both functional and landscape outcomes—bioretention and wetland systems treat stormwater and replenish groundwater, and a large marine sediment basin and mangrove wetland capture sediment and nutrients and provide habitat in the Broadwater. Council embraced the WSUD elements which remain a feature of the park.
