The research site comprised six 200 m2 biofiltration cells (arranged in pairs) that collect real-time flow and water quality data for each cell. Each pair has a different combination of filtration media and plant mix, flow distribution, and saturated zone at the base of the filtration beds. This design and extensive monitoring demonstrated the most efficient configuration for large scale biofiltration treatment of stormwater for managed aquifer recharge (MAR) in South Australia.
